A topical anti-fungal treatment from the imidazole family applied to the skin or vaginally.
Negligible systemic absorption through the skin (Effik 2010) or vaginal mucosa (Novelli 1991) make it very unlikely that significant amounts pass into breast milk.
Do not apply on nipple-areola or alternatively clean before breastfeeding.
It is advisable to avoid the application to the nipple of creams, gels and other topical products containing paraffin (mineral oil) so that the infant does not absorb them (Concin 2008, Noti 2003)
