Suggestions made at e-lactancia are done by APILAM team of health professionals, and are based on updated scientific publications. It is not intended to replace the relationship you have with your doctor but to compound it. The pharmaceutical industry contraindicates breastfeeding, mistakenly and without scientific reasons, in most of the drug data sheets.
Your contribution is essential for this service to continue to exist. We need the generosity of people like you who believe in the benefits of breastfeeding.
Thank you for helping to protect and promote breastfeeding.

Unicellular fungus used to produce beer, bread and wine by fermentation. Contains amino acids, sugar, fat, Vitamin B and mineral salts. The Commission E of the German Ministry of Health recommends it for anorexia, asthenia and chronic acne.(Blumenthal 1998)
Since the last update we have not found published data on its excretion in breastmilk.
The passage of the fungus into breast milk is highly unlikely, since it is destroyed by digestion in the intestine. The administration of probiotics and other live organisms is contraindicated in immunocompromised persons. (Poncelet 2021)
The consumption of non-alcoholic beer appears to enhance the antioxidant capacity of breastmilk and decrease oxidative damage in breastfeeding mothers. (Codoñer 2013)
Nursing mothers have had mild gastrointestinal side effects with the consumption of brewer's yeast. (McBride 2021)
It seems to be a good nutritional supplement. Brewer's yeast has been advocated as a galactogogue (Muresan 2011). A barley component of beer (even nonalcoholic beer) can also increase prolactin secretion. (ABM 2018), however proof on effectiveness as a galactagogue is lacking. (Jia 2021, Koletzko 2000, Mennella 1993,)
The best galactógogo is the maternal self-confidence along with a breastfeeding on demand using a correct technique for nursing. (ABM 2018 y 2011, Mannion 2012, Forinash 2012)
There is a reduced intake of breast milk by infants after even moderate consumption of alcohol (alcoholic beer) by their mothers. (Koletzko 2000, Mennella 1993)
