Solutions for parenteral nutrition; Hyperalimentation

Compatible

Safe product and/or breastfeeding is the best option.

It is a feeding method administered through a route other than the digestive one. A special formula is administered intravenously that provides most of the nutrients the body needs.
It is used when a person cannot or should not be fed by mouth.

The indications for parenteral nutrition are:
- Inability to use the digestive tract after major surgery or intestinal obstruction due to a benign or malignant process
- Need for rest of the digestive tract due to digestive diseases, intolerances, severe malnutrition, trauma, chemotherapy-radiotherapy.

Parenteral nutrition is used in neonatology.

The products that are administered in parenteral nutrition are macro and micronutrients that, well balanced, cannot alter the quantity and composition of breast milk.

The possibility of breastfeeding depends more on the clinical status and underlying disease of the mother than on parenteral nutrition.

Suggestions made at e-lactancia are done by APILAM team of health professionals, and are based on updated scientific publications. It is not intended to replace the relationship you have with your doctor but to compound it. The pharmaceutical industry contraindicates breastfeeding, mistakenly and without scientific reasons, in most of the drug data sheets.
