Oxiconazol Nitrate

Compatible

Safe product and/or breastfeeding is the best option.

Oxiconazole is an imidazole antifungal used as a cream or lotion in the treatment of fungal skin infections and as a single-dose vaginal ovule in the treatment of vaginal candidiasis.

At the time of the last update, we found no published data on its excretion in breast milk.

It has a negligible systemic absorption through the skin or vaginal mucosa ((Meda 2014, FDA 2004, Biosarto 1996), so it is very unlikely to pass into breast milk in clinically significant quantities.

Expert authors consider safe the use of this medication during breastfeeding. (Leachman 2006, Mactal 2001)

Wash hands thoroughly after application. Avoid using it on the breast or cleanse before nursing.

Alternatives

  • Clotrimazole (Safe product and/or breastfeeding is the best option.)
  • Miconazole (Safe product and/or breastfeeding is the best option.)

Suggestions made at e-lactancia are done by APILAM team of health professionals, and are based on updated scientific publications. It is not intended to replace the relationship you have with your doctor but to compound it. The pharmaceutical industry contraindicates breastfeeding, mistakenly and without scientific reasons, in most of the drug data sheets.
