The aerial parts of the plant are used. It contains saponosides, coumarins (umbelliferone, herniarin), flavonoids (heterosides isorramnetin and quercetin) and tannins. Popular use as a diuretic (cystitis, lithiasis), spasmolytic, astringent and expectorant (Fitoterapia.net). Oral administration.

There is hardly any scientific literature on the medicinal use of this plant. Commission E of the German Ministry of Health does not consider its efficacy proven and advises against its use. (Blumenthal 1998)
