The aerial parts of the plant are used. It contains gallic tannins, phenolcarboxylic acids, flavonoids and iridoid heterosides. Traditional uses: oral for colds and diarrhea, and topical for blepharitis, conjunctivitis and sties. (Fitoterapia.net)

Plant devoid of toxicity; moderate consumption would be compatible with breastfeeding. Topical ocular use is fully compatible.
The Commission E of the German Ministry of Health does not support the use of this plant because the efficacy of traditional uses as antidiarrheal and anti-inflammatory ophthalmic has not been demonstrated. (Blumenthal 1998)
