La lactancia materna es, sin ninguna duda, el mejor alimento a ofrecer en caso de desastre natural por los beneficios conocidos para madre e hijo.

El "Código Internacional para la Comercialización de Sucedáneos de la leche materna"(1981, Asamblea Mundial de la Salud) protege y promueve la lactancia materna, evitando la donación de sucedáneos de leche materna, tetinas y biberones por los efectos negativos en la salud de la población infantil, aceptándolo sólo en casos muy específicos.

No se deben entregar muestras gratuitas de leche de fórmula a las madres y ni a las embarazadas. Importante crear grupos de apoyo a este grupo poblacional para promover la lactancia materna y sus beneficios.

No se muestran alternativas porque Terremoto tiene un nivel de riesgo muy bajo.

Las recomendaciones de e-lactancia las realiza el equipo de profesionales de la salud de APILAM y están basadas en publicaciones científicas recientes. Estas recomendaciones no pretenden reemplazar la relación con su médico, sino complementarla. La industria farmacéutica contraindica la lactancia, de forma equivocada y sin razones científicas, en la mayor parte de prospectos y fichas de medicamentos.
