Safe product and/or breastfeeding is the best option.

The bulb of this herbaceous plant native to Asia is widely used throughout the world as a condiment-food and for therapeutic purposes systemically and also topically (Zhang 2008). It contains sulfoxides (alliin), thiosulfinates (allicin), polysaccharides, amino acids, vitamins, mineral salts and prostaglandins. Attributed properties (some proven): hypolipidemic, vasodilator, anticoagulant, antioxidant, antimicrobial (Fitoterapia.net, WHO 2010 and 1999, Borrelli 2007). Indications Commission E of the German Ministry of Health: arteriosclerosis, hyperlipidemia, hypertension (Blumenthal 1998). Oral and topical cutaneous administration.

Its metabolites are excreted in breast milk, as they have been measured in milk and its special odor is perceived in milk between 1 and 3 hours after ingestion. (Qin 2020, Scheffler 2019 and 2016, Mennella 1991)

It is one of the most commonly used plants during breastfeeding in various regions of the world. (Amer 2015; Sim 2013)

In some cultures it is used as a galactogogue without documented evidence. (Mahalakshmi 2023, Amuthavalluvan 2011)

Its odor and taste are transmitted to breast milk, causing the infant to suckle longer (Amer 2015, Budzynska 2012, Mennella 1993 and 1991) and it is believed that it may condition better subsequent adaptation of different flavors during the introduction of complementary feeding. (Beauchamp 2011 and 2010, Mennella 1995)

Is not responsible for causing infant colic. (Budzynska 2012, Lust 1996, Mennella 1993)

May cause generalized and contact allergies and local burns: do not apply on nipple-areola. (Borrelli 2007, Rafaat 2000, Roberge 1997)

Suggestions made at e-lactancia are done by APILAM team of health professionals, and are based on updated scientific publications. It is not intended to replace the relationship you have with your doctor but to compound it. The pharmaceutical industry contraindicates breastfeeding, mistakenly and without scientific reasons, in most of the drug data sheets.
