A shrub which is native to the Mediterranean area.
Its fruit contains a large amount of sugar and phenols such as gallic acid, flavonoids (anthocyanins), fatty acids (linolenic, linoleic and oleic), vitamins C and E and minerals.
The leaves contain arbutin and hydroquinone derivatives.

The fruit is edible, and can be used to make jams and alcoholic beverages. Very mature fruit contains a small proportion of alcohol.
Astringent, diuretic and urinary antiseptic properties are attributed to decoctions of the leaves, properties which have not been proven.
It is a plant which is devoid of toxicity.

Since the last update we have not found any published data on its excretion in breast milk.

Given its lack of toxicity at correct doses, its moderate consumption can be considered compatible with breastfeeding.

Suggestions made at e-lactancia are done by APILAM team of health professionals, and are based on updated scientific publications. It is not intended to replace the relationship you have with your doctor but to compound it. The pharmaceutical industry contraindicates breastfeeding, mistakenly and without scientific reasons, in most of the drug data sheets.
