9,10-Dihydro-4,5-dihydroxy-9,10-dioxo-2-anthroic acid diacetate

Low Risk

Possibly safe. Probably compatible. Mild risk possible. Follow up recommended. Read the Comment.

It is an anthraquinone derivative that is used in osteoarthritis. It metabolizes to rhein (rhubarb anthraquinone glycoside) which acts as an interleukin-1 inhibitor. Oral administration twice daily.

Since the last update we have not found any published data on its excretion in breast milk.

Its pharmacokinetic characteristics (high plasma protein binding, large volume of distribution and low pKa) make it very unlikely its excretion into breast milk in significant amounts.

The most common and serious side effect possible is diarrhea, which can lead to dehydration and complicate breastfeeding.

  • Celecoxib ( Safe. Compatible. Minimal risk for breastfeeding and infant.)
  • Glucosamine ( Safe. Compatible. Minimal risk for breastfeeding and infant.)
  • Paracetamol ( Safe. Compatible. Minimal risk for breastfeeding and infant.)

Suggestions made at e-lactancia are done by APILAM team of health professionals, and are based on updated scientific publications. It is not intended to replace the relationship you have with your doctor but to compound it. The pharmaceutical industry contraindicates breastfeeding, mistakenly and without scientific reasons, in most of the drug data sheets.
